An amount of Rs 19479 crore has been provided by the Indian Railways in the Revised Estimates for the financial year 2022-2023 to make Vande Bharat trains under the PH 21-Rolling Stock Program (Carriage).

Indian Railway Vande Bharat Train : Communications and Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in the Lok Sabha that the country’s first Vande Bharat Express was started in 2019 between New Delhi and Varanasi. Presently, 10 pairs of Vande Bharat Express are in operation on the Indian Railways network. In addition, Indian Railways has issued plans to manufacture 102 Vande Bharat rakes (35 in 2022-2023 and 67 in 2023-2024) as per IR design within production units (Integral Coach Factory, Rail Coach Factory and Modern Coach Factory). A total of 75 Vande Bharat rakes are to be made as chair car coaches and the rest as sleeper coaches.

Railways has also planned to manufacture 400 Vande Bharat trains (sleeper coaches) of three different technologies, for which tenders have been invited to select technology partners for construction within the Railways. Contracts awarded for Routes work
Contracts have been awarded for route work on about 3000 km of Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah section of Indian Railways and the work is in progress. In order to encourage investment from industry in developing additional terminals to handle rail cargo, a new Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) policy has been launched on 15 December 2021.

Target is to start 100 terminals in 3 years
These terminals will be constructed on non-railway land as well as partially or fully on railway land. There is a target to commission 100 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs) in three financial years i.e. 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25, out of which 30 GCTs have already been commissioned. So far, 145 applications have been received and 103 approvals have been issued for development of cargo terminals under the GCT policy.
