Dangerous to take IV drip at home
Dr Suranjit Chatterjee, Internal Medicine at Apollo Hospital, Delhi said that IV should be taken only under the supervision or guidance of qualified medical personnel. “Some people take an IV drip at home. But it can be dangerous if it is not done under proper supervision. Reaction can happen while taking IV drip and can prove to be dangerous for the person taking the drip.
He said that all medicines, even paracetamol, should be taken only on the prescription of the doctor or else it can cause serious health problems. “The IV drip, if not injected properly, can cause allergies and low blood pressure or even prove fatal at times,” he said.
Dr Chatterjee stressed, “If IV drip is to be given at home to a patient who cannot be taken to the hospital, it should be in the presence of a certified health care professional. One who is not trained is not capable of applying drip at home.”
IV should be taken only if the doctor says
Dr Chatterjee said that IV injection should be done only on the advice of the physician. He concluded by saying, “No one should opt for an IV drip without a prescription for any reason other than a medical condition. Anyone who takes IV drip to improve skin tone, texture is playing with their health.”
