This time I wanted to win gold for India, which I got for the country in 2018 (Commonwealth Games 2018). I was yearning to raise my flag there and hoist it. What made me even more happy was that the stadium was full of Indians, and they were cheering for me. Then I felt strongly that I should win a medal for India. When I got the medal and the flag was being hoisted and the national anthem was being played, we were all singing in full swing! It was an emotional moment for me.”
The one who ruled India, seeing that people were singing our national anthem…
Nikhat will also tell about how she felt seeing her flag flying high in a country that had once ruled India. He said, “It was a moment to cherish because the national anthem was playing when I was presented with the gold medal at the top of the podium. While our flag was being hoisted, I turned to the spectators to see if they were standing. When I saw foreigners also standing, my heart filled with pride, and I proudly sang my national anthem. It was an emotional moment. As an Indian, it was a big deal that the people of the country whose people once ruled us were now respecting our flag and singing our national anthem.
