Referring to the provision of compulsory education for all students up to class VIII under the Right to Education RTE Act, the government has now extended the right to other backward classes i.e. OBCs and minority communities. Pre-Matric Scholarship The scheme has been limited to the students of class 9th and 10th. Earlier, the pre-matric scholarship covered education from class 1st to 8th as well as students from minority communities.
Under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme, Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) students are covered from class 9th and 10th on full-time basis only. Now it is being changed.
Decision taken under RTE
The government has justified its decision in a notice saying that the Right to Education Act, 2009 makes it mandatory for the government to provide free and compulsory elementary education (Class I to VIII) to every child.
The notice said that according to this, only students studying in class 9th and 10th are covered under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Similarly, from 2022-23, the coverage under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs will also be only for class 9th and 10th.
Congress raised questions
Institute Nodal Officer (INO) or District Nodal Officer (DNO) or State Nodal Officer (SNO) under Ministry of Minority Affairs Pre-Matric Scholarship Under the scheme, only applications for class 9th and 10th have been asked to be verified. Political parties have reacted sharply to this decision.
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala said that for decades, children from SC/ST background have been getting scholarship from class 1st to 8th, but the government has stopped the scholarship from 2022-23, which is a ‘conspiracy’ against the poor. Is.
He said that for the last eight years, the BJP government has continuously attacked the rights of the underprivileged, be it reducing the budget of SC/ST/OBC-minorities or heinous atrocities. We will agitate against it. Withdraw this decision immediately.
