40000 children absent in 12th exam in Tamil Nadu, know what is the reason

Tamil Nadu News: Due to the Kovid epidemic in Tamil Nadu, a large number of students remained absent in the 12th class exam. In Tamil Nadu, the number of students registered for class 12th was 8,51,303, out of which 49,559 (6%) remained absent in the exam. According to sources, out of this, more than 40,000 students were such who failed in the 11th board exam. Last year also 4% to 6% absentees were seen. During that time fear of exams and going to work to support their families were cited as the main reasons why children did not turn up for exams.

Questions raised on the relevance of board exams

Teachers say that the state government should have got a detailed study done, so that it could be known that what was the reason behind the absence of children in the 12th class exam last year. Some people also questioned the relevance of Class 11 board exams, as students were dropping out after failing in these exams.

PB Prince of the State Platform for Common School System said that the board exams to be held in class 11th are among the major factors that led to absenteeism in class 12th. He said, ‘There is no need for 11th board exam. Higher Secondary is a two year program. In every exam, equal share should be given to the syllabus of both the years.

PB Prince said, ‘The School Education Department should also take into account the socio-economic factors, due to which the children had to return to work.’ He said, “The department should provide counseling and help the children to return to school.”
