government has taken another step forward to make the bullet train run faster in India. Now the tender process can be started quickly without any delay. The National High Speed Railway Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has invited tenders for the construction of a 21-km-long tunnel for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor for faster running of bullet trains. Seven kilometers of the tunnel will pass under the sea. According to sources, the work on the corridor has intensified after the change of government in Maharashtra. The tunnel will be constructed between the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Thane district of Maharashtra and the underground station at Shilphata. This tunnel will be about 25 to 65 meters deep below the ground and the deepest construction site will be 114 meters below Parsik hill near Shilphata. The last date for submission of tender is January 19, 2023.
The work of speeding up the bullet train project in the country is going on in full swing. Under this, the country’s first under sea ton will be made to run bullet trains in the coming few years. In this tunnel built under the sea, the train will be able to run at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour. The length of this tunnel will be 21 kilometers, of which seven kilometers will pass under the sea. Let us inform that the National High Speed Railway Corporation (NHSRCL) has invited bids for its construction. The corporation had also floated a tender for the construction of underground tunnels in November last year, but it was canceled citing administrative reasons. Now the tender process will be started soon without any delay.
the first tunnel to be built under the sea
NHSRCL said in a document that the tunnel will be constructed using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). The seven kilometer long tunnel under the sea will be the first tunnel to be built under the sea in the country. The tunnel will be a single-tube twin-track with a diameter of 13.1 metres. The section will involve construction of 39 instrument rooms at 37 locations adjacent to the tunnel location. Three TBMs will be used to build the tunnel portion of about 16 km and the remaining five km will be constructed through NATM.
when will the tunnel be ready
Please note that the last date for submission of tender is January 19, 2023. It is worth noting that NHSRCL had invited tenders for underground tunnel construction works for the project in November last year. But this year the authorities canceled it citing administrative reasons. However, the Ministry of Railways expects the first trial run of bullet train on a short stretch of 50 km in Gujarat in 2026.
There is also a plan to build a tunnel in the Brahmaputra river
According to NHSRCL, the tunnel to be built in the Gulf of Thane will be based on the technology of a single tube. It will have both incoming and outgoing tracks. In this project, 39 equipment rooms will also be built at 37 locations adjacent to the tunnel location. Let us tell you that earlier a proposal was made to build an underwater tunnel in Yamuna river for the Delhi-Mumbai Rapid Rail Transit project, but it could not be done. Along with this, the Ministry of Roads and Railways is also working on a plan to build a tunnel in the Brahmaputra river. Which can be used for the operation of both vehicles and trains.
