In 1901, two German engineers Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz formed a company. renamed Daimler-Benz. The reason for adding the word Mercedes to the name of the company was a businessman named Emil Jelenik. There is a story to this too. In fact, Emil, a car enthusiast, bought 36 Daimler-Benz cars during a racing event. He put a condition behind this purchase. He said, if the company adds the name of my daughter Mercedes Jellinek in front of its name, that deal will be confirmed. Recognizing this, Mercedes was added to the company’s name in 1902. Hence the name Mercedes-Benz. Although the first cars under this name were launched in 1926.
In the era of horse carts, preparations were made to bring an engine without gasoline.
That was the period of the 19th century. Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz did not meet. In the era of horse cart, both were busy doing something new in their own way. For example, Daimler was busy developing a gasoline-powered engine. At the same time, Benz was developing an automobile engine that could handle a four-wheeled vehicle. Benz succeeded in his experiment. Opened his own company in 1883 and patented the engine in 1886 under the name Motorwagon.
Daimler also found success and together with friend Wilhelm Maybach opened a company called DMG in 1890. He created an engine that could be driven from a trolley to a motorcycle. Later both the companies met and the world’s luxury car maker came into existence.
