The first question that comes up while buying any car is the mileage. Looking at the price of petrol and diesel, everyone wants that his car should run as much as possible per liter of oil. That’s why car companies also add the mileage of the car with full vigor. However, giving wrong mileage information to Ford proved costly. A woman from Kerala Ford Fiesta On not getting the claimed mileage, approached the consumer court. Now the consumer court has also asked Ford to pay Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the woman.
The car in question here is the Ford Fiesta sedan. American automobile company Ford stopped selling it in 2015. This car has a 1.4 liter turbo diesel engine. It was also offered with a 1.6 liter petrol engine. In 2011, the company had shown a mileage of 32 kilometers per liter on diesel in an Indian automobile magazine.
claim mileage not received
The mileage of 32 kmpl is quite high for any mid-size sedan. However, Ford was quite happy with this number and printed the same mileage figures in their brochures as well. According to auto website CarTalk, Ford has advertised a mileage of 32.38 kmpl for the sedan. Saudamini PP also bought Fiesta after seeing this mileage. However, after buying the car, he came to know that it is not giving that much mileage.
will have to pay so much compensation
The sedan car was giving a mileage of only 16 kmpl. Soudamini went to the Thrissur consumer court regarding this matter. Here, in the test conducted by the Experiment Commissioner, the mileage was found to be 19.6 kilometers per litre. The court agreed that Ford and the Kairali Ford dealer had adopted a wrong method to sell the vehicle. The court ordered a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh for the financial loss caused to the customer and Rs 1.5 lakh for hardship and suffering.
Bought for 8.94 lakhs
Apart from this, the court has asked Ford to pay a separate compensation of Rs 10,000 towards the cost of the case. Please tell that in 2014, Saudamini PP had bought a Ford Classic (Fiesta) from Kairali Ford, an authorized dealer of Ford cars in Kerala, for Rs 8.94 lakh.
